Fostex NF04R Compact Two-Way Active Studio Monitor

The NF04R is a compact two-way active nearfield built around Fostex's HR-shaped 100 mm woofer, a cone profile the company developed to push breakup modes out of the passband, crossed to a 19 mm soft dome tweeter. The bass-reflex cabinet holds 2.8 litres internally and is quoted from 57 Hz to 36 kHz, which is unusually wide at both ends for a 4 inch box.

Amplification is 30 W on the woofer and 20 W on the tweeter. Both a balanced XLR-3-31 (pin 2 hot) and an unbalanced 6.3 mm TS input are fitted, with a gain switch selecting -10 dBV/+4 dBu or -20 dBV/-6 dBu sensitivity. An 80 Hz low shelf offers 0, -2, -4 or -6 dB and the tweeter can be trimmed 0 or -2 dB, so the monitor can be matched to a desk or a soffit. Each cabinet is 120 x 189 x 157 mm and about 3.1 kg.
