Allen & Heath XB-14-2 Compact Broadcast Mixer
The XB-14-2 is Allen & Heath's compact radio broadcast mixer, a 10-channel desk purpose-built for on-air studios, podcast rooms and OB rigs. Four mic/line channels use high-gain DuoPre preamps with up to 69dB of gain and 3-band EQ, optimized for the low-output dynamic microphones common in broadcast. Two telco channels bring phone callers into the mix with a selectable clean-feed output (LR program, Aux or Audition bus), variable high-pass and low-pass filters to tame caller audio, and a Talk button, while four stereo channels handle CD decks, playout and other line sources.
A class-compliant, full-duplex USB audio interface records and plays back to a computer and supports voice over IP, with Mac and Windows core-audio driver compatibility. Extensive machine control comes from 27 logic I/O and 15 configuration switches: mono channels offer fader-start sensing to trigger external devices or mute monitors against feedback, and stereo channels carry start and cue logic for transport control. Program, Audition, Aux and clean-feed buses round out a broadcast-focused signal path.
