Sontronics DM-1S Snare Drum Condenser Microphone
The DM-1S is a small-diaphragm cardioid condenser cut down to 91 mm so it fits between a hi-hat and a rack tom without becoming a hazard. A condenser on snare buys you the stick attack and the wire rattle that a dynamic rounds off, and the -10 dB pad takes the capsule to 135 dB, which is where a rimshot lives.
Response runs 30 Hz to 20 kHz with sensitivity at 16 mV/Pa and self-noise at 14 dBA. Impedance is under 200 Ohms into a 3-pin XLR on 48 V phantom. It weighs 100 g, so a clip on the hoop holds it without fighting the stand. Supplied with its mic clip. It is also the snare mic in Sontronics' DRUMPACK and DRUMPACK PLUS sets.
