Sony UTX-P40 Plug-On Transmitter (UC14, 470-542 MHz)
The UTX-P40 is the plug-on transmitter of Sony's UWP-D wireless family, turning a wired handheld or shotgun into a cordless source by clamping onto its XLR output. It supplies 48V phantom power for condenser mics and accepts line-level sources, with an auto gain mode plus a +15 dB boost for capturing quiet, off-mic audio. That makes it a fast way to free a reporter's interview mic or a boom from its cable on run-and-gun shoots.
Sony's Digital Audio Processing rides on proven analog UHF transmission for clear, natural sound, and NFC SYNC (with IR sync to URX-P03, URX-P03D, and URX-S03D receivers) sets a secure channel quickly. The transmitted frequency is sent to the receiver so several receivers can be matched to one transmitter, a variable muting function tames handling and dropout artifacts, and two AA batteries run it for up to six hours. A soft case is included.
