Elgato Game Capture 4K S External Capture Card
Game Capture 4K S is the mid-range external box in Elgato's capture line. It takes unencrypted HDMI 2.0 in plus a 3.5 mm analog audio input, and puts a lag-free HDMI 2.0 passthrough back out to the local display. Passthrough runs up to 2160p60, 1440p120, or 1080p240, and capture covers 2160p60, 1440p60, 1080p120, 1080p60, 720p60, 567p, and 480p. Variable refresh rate is supported on the passthrough, which is what keeps a VRR display from being downgraded just because a capture box is in the chain.
HDR10 passes through at up to 2160p60 and is captured at up to 1080p60 on Windows. The host connection is USB 3.0 Type-C, and Elgato Studio handles capture and editing on both platforms as a free download. Windows 11 or later is the stated minimum with an 8th-generation Core i5 or a Ryzen and a GeForce RTX 10-series or equivalent GPU; on the Apple side it is macOS 14.2 or later, or iPadOS 18 with USB-C, on Apple M1 or better. The unit measures 112 x 72 x 18 mm and weighs 90 g, and ships with 150 cm USB C-to-C and HDMI 2.0 cables.
