Black Lion Audio B172A Hybrid FET/Optical Compressor
The B172A pairs Black Lion's Seventeen circuit, its take on the legendary 76-style FET limiter, with its take on the renowned 2A tube optical compressor, in a single chassis where both circuits can run independently or chained in series. That gives an engineer FET punch and optical smoothness from one rack space instead of patching two separate boxes.
Ratio runs 4:1 to 20:1 with continuously variable attack from 20 to 800 microseconds and release from 50 to 1200 milliseconds, and the unit stereo links for matched two-channel compression with switchable A/B or B/A signal routing. A custom T4BLA optical element sits at the heart of the optical side. I/O is 2 XLR and 2 quarter-inch in and out, with quarter-inch link jacks, in a 2U, 19 inch chassis on a standard IEC cable.
