Audio-Technica AT2040
The AT2040 is a front-address hypercardioid dynamic built specifically for podcasting and streaming, where it delivers the warm, assertive broadcast tone people associate with much pricier radio microphones. Its large diaphragm produces a smooth, natural sound with low noise, giving spoken word a full, present character straight into the interface. A multistage foam windscreen handles plosives internally, so hard consonants stay clean without a separate pop filter.
An integrated shock mount isolates desk thumps, boom-arm knocks, and keyboard vibration from the capsule. The tight hypercardioid pattern rejects more room and off-axis sound than a typical cardioid, so background noise and echo stay out of the recording even in an untreated room. As a dynamic microphone it needs no phantom power, connects over a standard 3-pin XLR output, and ships with a pivoting stand mount, a 5/8-inch to 3/8-inch thread adapter, and a soft protective pouch.
