Whirlwind Audio Transformers Transformer Types
These are the transformers Whirlwind winds for its own direct boxes and splitters, sold on their own for anyone building a rack. There are three jobs across the range: the TRHL series converts a high impedance signal to low impedance, the TRSP1F and TRSP2F isolate and split microphone lines, and the TRSP600L isolates, balances and splits line level audio.
The design work shows up in the numbers. The mic splitting transformers run 0.005 percent THD at 1 kHz with 20 Hz to 20 kHz response inside 0.6 dB, and both are metal canned with a Faraday shield. The TRSP600L handles +26 dBu and carries a dual secondary that wires in series as one output or as two, each 6 dB below the input. TRHLM is the TRHL in a metal can for extra shielding.
| TRHL | 20k ohm in, 150 ohm out, 20 Hz - 20 kHz, 0.05% THD, +16 dBu max, Faraday shielded |
|---|---|
| TRHLM | TRHL in a metal can, 20k ohm in, 150 ohm out, 0.05% THD, +16 dBu max |
| TRSP1F | 150 ohm in, 150 ohm out, 1 output, 0.005% THD, +16 dBu max, metal can and Faraday shield |
| TRSP2F | 150 ohm in, 150 ohm x 2 out, 2 outputs, 0.005% THD, metal can and Faraday shield |
| TRSP600L | 600 ohm in, 600 ohm or 150 ohm x 2 out, 0.005% THD, +26 dBu max, +20 dBu at 20 Hz |
| Insertion Loss | 22 dB (TRHL, TRHLM), 0.88 dB (TRSP1F), 0.97 dB (TRSP2F), 1.5 or 6 dB (TRSP600L) |
| Frequency Response | 20 Hz - 20 kHz on every type |
| Reference | All measurements at 0 dBu = 0.775 V RMS; TRSP600L THD at +10 dBu |
