Whirlwind IMP PAD In-Line Attenuator
An IMP PAD is the thing you reach for when a line level signal has to go into a mic preamp, or when two boxes disagree about how hot the connection between them should be. It is a precision H-pad in a barrel, female XLR in, male XLR out, no power and nothing to set.
Four values are made: 10, 20, 30 and 40 dB. Input impedance is 1 kohm at the female XLR and output impedance is 150 ohm at the male, which is why it lands cleanly on a mic input. A set of all four belongs in any complete audio toolkit.
