Whirlwind IMP 2 Direct Box
The IMP 2 is the passive direct box Whirlwind has been building for decades, and it turns up in racks and on stages everywhere. It converts an unbalanced line or instrument level signal to a low impedance, balanced mic level output using the company own TRHL transformer, so it needs no power and has nothing to fail mid-set.
A pair of parallel wired 1/4 inch jacks lets you feed an amp and the console at the same time, and a ground lift switch breaks the shield connection when a ground loop starts to hum. It is built rugged inside and out, which is why it stays in service for years.
