PreSonus R Series AMT Studio Monitor
What sets the R Series apart from a conventional nearfield is the tweeter. Instead of a dome, each monitor uses a custom 6.8-inch Air Motion Transformer ribbon, a pleated diaphragm that moves air by squeezing rather than pistoning. It tracks fine detail and high-frequency transients that a dome tends to round off, and its housing constrains the projection to the horizontal plane, giving narrow vertical dispersion that cuts desk and ceiling reflections while keeping a wide horizontal sweet spot.
The woofers are custom coated woven cones, 6.5-inch on the R65 and 8-inch on the R80 and R80 V2, chosen for rigidity so the dispersion pattern stays constant across the range. R65 and R80 are biamped with 150 W of Class D. The R80 V2 changes the amplifier to 140 W RMS of Class A/B, split 75 W to the woofer and 45 W to the tweeter, and adds four acoustic tuning controls for compensating a difficult room. All three are sold individually rather than as a pair.
