The SM4000-C hangs a microphone from a ceiling, a truss or a wire and lets it be aimed in any direction once it is up there. It is cut specifically for the short MMP-C preamp body, which is the assembly people use when a microphone has to be permanently installed and stay out of sight.

Because the mount is suspended rather than clamped, it also gives some isolation from the structure it hangs from.
