Crestron CHV-RSS Remote Slab and Outdoor Temperature Sensor
Underfloor heating needs to know the slab temperature, not the room temperature, and no wall sensor can tell it. The CHV-RSS is a temperature probe potted inside a waterproof stainless steel sleeve 8 mm in diameter and 70 mm long, made to be buried in concrete, run under a floor, or left outside. Its outdoor range runs from -40 to 170 degrees F, with accuracy of 1 degree F across the full range.
Wiring is a single non-polarized twisted pair, so there is nothing to get backwards. A 20 ft pigtail leaves the probe, and CAT5 or similar low-capacitance cable extends it up to 500 ft back to the thermostat. Up to four CHV-RSS sensors can be connected to one CHV-TSTAT, CHV-THSTAT, CHV-TSTATEX, CHV-TSTATEX-FCU, HZ-THSTAT, DIN-THSTAT or DIN-1TSTAT8, which is how a large zone gets averaged rather than judged from one point.
