Countryman B3 Protective Cap
These are the caps that make a B3 behave differently in two rooms. Each one has its own high frequency characteristic: flat for a natural chest mounted voice, +4 dB when the microphone is buried under a collar and needs the top back, +8 dB for intelligibility in a reverberant house or to match a B3 to other microphones already in the system.
They are also what makes the B3 survive the jobs it is famous for. With a cap fitted the capsule tolerates makeup, sweat and repeated submersion, so a spare set is the difference between a mic that comes back from a water sequence and one that does not. Five finishes, three responses, fifteen part numbers.
