Black Lion Audio Bluey FET Limiting Amplifier
Bluey is Black Lion's reimagining of the 1176 FET limiter, developed after analyzing the heavily modified original that engineer Chris Lord-Alge has used for decades. It keeps the four ratios (4:1, 8:1, 12:1, 20:1) and the continuously variable attack and release that make the 1176 what it is, with attack from 20 microseconds to 800 and release from 50 milliseconds to 1200.
The practical addition is a Mix control on the front panel, which blends the compressed signal against the dry one so parallel compression happens inside the box rather than on two console channels. Custom Cinemag transformers sit on the input and output. I/O is a single XLR in and out plus an RCA for stereo linking a second unit, in a 2U chassis on a standard IEC cable.
