Allen & Heath ZEDi-8
The ZEDi-8 is a compact hybrid mixer and 2-in/2-out USB interface built around Allen & Heath's GSPre boutique preamps, the same design taken from the GS-R24 recording console. Two mono mic/line channels with switchable 48V phantom power handle a vocal and an instrument or a stereo pair of mics, and two stereo line channels bring in keyboards, drum machines, or a media player. Each channel carries HF and LF EQ for quick tone shaping.
The 24-bit/96 kHz USB interface streams the stereo mix to a computer for recording, podcasting, or streaming and returns playback to the desk, and a dedicated headphone output lets you monitor without a separate amp. Balanced XLR main outputs feed a PA or powered monitors. Small enough for a desktop yet built with the same audio path as its larger siblings, it is a straightforward recording front end and rehearsal mixer.
