The Lumix S5II is the camera that put phase detection into the Lumix line. A 24.2 effective megapixel full-frame CMOS sensor sits behind a phase-detection and contrast hybrid AF system, which is the change that made the S5 body competitive for tracking work rather than only for static and gimbal setups. Autofocus modes run from full-area tracking down to pinpoint.

Five-axis body stabilisation is rated at five stops on the CIPA standard measured with the 20-60mm kit lens at 60mm.
