Manfrotto 526-1 Professional Fluid Video Head

The 526-1 is the heavy end of Manfrotto's 500 series, built for ENG and EFP crews putting more than 35 lb on the head. Drag is set in three numbered steps for low, medium and high, with a fourth setting at zero that takes the fluid out of the path entirely when a shot calls for a snap pan or tilt. Counterbalance is an adjustable spring covering camera weights from 8 to 15 kg.

Every control the operator touches - tilt lock, pan lock, tilt drag - sits on the left side under large rubber-padded knobs, so they can be found by feel. The pan arm rosette is removable and replaceable, which means a knock to the side casting costs a small part rather than the head. It takes a 100mm bowl and ships with a 357PLV-1 quick release plate.
