AKG HSC271 Closed-Back Headset with Condenser Microphone
The HSC271 is AKG's K271 MKII closed-back studio headphone with a condenser boom microphone attached, and it has become a default for intercom, ENG/EFP and video production for the same reasons the K271 became a default in the studio: closed cups that keep the mix out of the microphone, replaceable velour pads, and a fit that survives a twelve-hour day. The condenser element gives a cleaner, more detailed voice than a dynamic boom, which matters on a comms circuit that several people are listening to.
Two mutes are built in, and both are mechanical rather than a switch to remember. Lifting the microphone arm mutes the microphone; taking the headset off opens a switch in the headband and mutes the audio. The boom mounts on either side to suit the operator and the space, and the cable detaches at a gold-plated six-pin mini XLR so a damaged cable is a two-minute fix rather than a service job. A W44 windscreen and a spare pair of velour pads are in the box.
