PROTON PIO USB Control Interface for PROTON Cameras
The PIO is the connecting box between a PROTON camera and a computer. Mini USB carries serial control data to the laptop, a 6-pin Hirose goes out to the camera, and a 2.1 mm barrel jack takes 4.2 to 24 V when the camera needs more than the USB port can give. It is what you reach for to change parameters on a rigged head or push a firmware update before the truck rolls, and at 41 x 32 x 18 mm and 21 grams it lives in the same pouch as the camera.
Three LEDs tell you where a problem is without a monitor: one for power, one for the camera link on the Hirose, one for the USB connection to the computer. On the 2K bodies, CAM, RAIN and FLEX, USB alone is usually enough for both power and control. On a 4K body or a ZOOM, use the supplied double USB cable, and when there is any doubt about supply current, run the external PSU. Multiple PIO units can sit on one computer to control several cameras at once.
