Epiphan Pearl-2 4K Feature Add-On
The 4K feature add-on unlocks Ultra HD on a Pearl-2 that shipped as an HD system. It is a license rather than a piece of hardware: the same chassis gains 4K encoding, 4K recording, and 4K streaming once it is applied, so a facility that bought into Pearl-2 at HD can move up without replacing the encoder or re-cabling the rack.
With the add-on in place, a Pearl-2 can build a 4K program from as many as two 4K inputs plus two HD or IP camera inputs, and drive its 4K HDMI output ports. Hardware downscaling is part of the package, so the same 4K program can be sent out at 1080p for a destination that cannot take UHD, without a separate scaler in the chain. That combination is what makes the upgrade worth doing before the sources are all 4K: the system can ingest and record UHD while still delivering HD downstream.
