Audio-Technica U851RWB Cardioid Condenser Boundary Microphone
The U851RWB is the white version of Audio-Technica's UniPoint cardioid condenser boundary microphone, made to sit on a conference or boardroom table and pull clean, intelligible speech off the surface. Its small-diameter capsule mounts near the boundary to cancel the phase cancellation that muddies ordinary flat mics, and the half-cardioid pattern (cardioid in the hemisphere above the table) rejects sound from behind for better gain before feedback. A heavy die-cast case with non-slip silicone pads keeps table thumps and vibration out of the signal, while UniGuard RFI shielding fends off interference from phones and wireless gear.
The mic runs on 11 to 52V phantom power and carries a UniSteep low-cut filter to trim low-frequency room rumble. It ships with a 25 foot white cable terminated with TA3F-type and XLRM-type connectors, and it accepts interchangeable cardioid, hypercardioid, and omnidirectional elements.
