A handheld diopter lets an operator get a macro close-up, a ring, a watch face, a label, by holding a magnifying element in front of the lens for a shot or two, rather than rigging a diopter into the matte box for the whole scene.

This one comes in a 150mm handheld format, available in +0.5 or +2 strength, the two most common diopter powers for close work on a standard cinema lens.
