ADC-MDP/HF/UHD takes the Mini DisplayPort output on a PC or laptop to an HDMI display. It is an active adapter, meaning it performs a true protocol conversion rather than relying on the source to shift levels, so it works from single-mode DisplayPort outputs as well as dual-mode ones. That distinction is what rescues machines whose Mini DP port refuses to drive a passive dongle.
