Klark Teknik DN9680 8-Port AES50 Extender and Multiplexer
The DN9680 exists because AES50 over CAT5 stops at 100 metres. A pair of them multiplexes eight AES50 connections, 192 bidirectional channels, onto one snake run of single-mode optical fibre up to 1000 metres, or 100 metres of CAT5 copper.
Each unit bundles its eight incoming AES50 streams onto the outgoing snake and unbundles the returning snake back to the corresponding eight ports, so the pair behaves as a straight one-to-one extension of the network rather than a routing layer. Clocking runs off a 1 ppm temperature-controlled crystal oscillator with internal, external AES50 or external snake sources. The DN9680-MM module fits when the run is multimode fibre.
