AJA KiPro-ND
Ki Pro is AJA's portable file-based HD/SD recorder and player: a deck's worth of controls in a box you can carry to set, writing Apple ProRes 422 QuickTime files that drop straight into an edit with no transcode step. It takes SD-SDI, HD-SDI or HDMI in, plus analog component, and records ProRes 422 in Standard, HQ, LT or Proxy so one unit serves both a finishing job and a long-form proxy day. Hardware 10-bit up-, down- and cross-conversion runs on the way in or out, which is what lets a mixed 1080i and 720p shoot land in a single format.
Recording goes to a removable AJA Ki Stor storage module or an ExpressCard/34 card, and the module doubles as a bus-powered FireWire 800 drive once it is off the unit. Power is 100-240 VAC through the supplied adapter or 12-18 VDC on a 4-pin XLR, so it runs off the same batteries as the camera. Control is by the front-panel display and buttons, the embedded web server over wired or 802.11g wireless Ethernet, or RS-422 Sony 9-pin machine control. This is the no-drive configuration: it ships with the FireWire 800 cable, the Ki AC adapter and the AC-to-4-pin-XLR lead, and you supply the storage module.
