The AG-HVX200A is the go-anywhere-do-anything camera. It will do DVCPRO, for news today,
DVCPRO50 for commercial production tomorrow, and DVCPROHD for high-end production next week.
Based on a true progressive CCD Chip set design called Advanced Progressive Technology(APT), it is a
native 1/3” 16:9 chip set that is capable of a 2 million pixel imager performance without the sacrifice of low
light sensitivity that would be expected if it really were 1/3” with 2 million pixels. The camera actually
captures at 1080P/60 at the output of the chip set and then converts to 1080i, cross-converts to 720P or
down converts to 480i from there. It is also switch-able to 4:3 in the Standard Definition modes.
It is a DVCPRO HD, and DVCPRO50 and DVCPRO25 and DV camera. The DVCPRO HD format, developed by Panasonic, already in use at broadcasting stations and film production companies around the world, is a full-fledged HD format that meets today's high-level professional needs and is fully compatible with Nonlinear Editing Systems today. The AG-HVX200A records the 4:2:2 digital component video signals when in the DVCPRO HD and the DVCPRO50 modes, today's mainstream formats for postproduction in High Definition and Standard Definition. The images are superb, with a very low noise level that allows for very realistic images in low light situations giving the image details in the shadow areas. The AG-HVX200A allows high-end video production techniques, such as green screen composting, making it outstandingly suitable for music videos and commercial production. And because DVCPRO HD uses intra-frame compression, the AG-HVX200A provides precise editing with frame independent high resolution. This is unlike HDV. Each frame stands on its own and does not affect the resolution of the next frame as it does in HDV. Audio quality is excellent too, thanks to DVCPRO HD's uncompressed 16-bit, 4-channel digital audio recording capability. The HVX200A is also a DV camera, which means it makes for the perfect transition from DV to HD. If you move up from your DV camera to the HVX, you can continue to service your current clientele with superb DV footage from the camera. With the addition of just a singe P2 card, you can add variable frame rate effects to your DV recordings. Heretofore, this was unheard of without a VariCam setup. So the HVX200A is THE upgrade for anyone that is looking to the future, but still needing to make money today. This handheld DVCPRO HD P2 camera-recorder is designed to meet emerging needs in HD content production. It debuts as Panasonic's first HD video product to use P2, the cutting-edge memory recording device that has the potential to revolutionize the entire production paradigm. The AG-HVX200A records HD, either 1080i or 720p video acquired by a new optical system and high-performance digital signal processor onto a P2 card using the broadcasting DVCPRO HD codec. This system achieves a level of image quality that conventional handheld HD cameras simply cannot match, while also supporting HD/SD multi-format and multi-codec recording capabilities. Variable frame rate recording is just one of the features that makes the AG-HVX200A unique in its class. Using technologies that make the Panasonic VariCam camera-recorder a favorite in movie production, this powerful function allows the overcranking and undercranking techniques used with film cameras to create fast-motion and slow-motion effects. The P2 card offers superior reliability, immediate playback and outstanding cost-performance. It allows direct connection to nonlinear editing systems and streamlines the production work flow, by providing to the editing system data files ready to be edited, rather than a video tape which would require the task of digitizing. The AG-HVX200A is the industry's first handheld camera that records on P2 cards. There are two card slots, so you can hot swap for continuous recording.  For extended on-the-run recording, the P2 card with
recorded data can be inserted into the AJ-PSC060G "P2 Store" external hard drive, which holds 60GBs of
data. In the field, the less than 1.5 pound AJ-PCS060G serves as an aggregation and transport device,
storing the contents of P2 cards and minimizing the number of P2 cards needed.
The entire contents of a 4GB P2 card can be transferred to the internal hard disk
drive in about four minutes (in the non-verify mode). It can be faster than real
time on 720P/24PN by a factor of 2.5 or at real time on 1080i/60 or faster that
real time in DVCPRO50 or DVCPRO. After the P2 content has been transferred
and is full of data, the P2 store can connect to a nonlinear system or server to
offload. Ingest to the PC or MAC is accomplished via a USB 2.0 interface and
appears as an external disk drive. The AJ-PCS060G has a shock-resistant
magnesium alloy body and is equipped with special impact-absorbing materials
to cushion the hard drive against shock and vibrations.
